Powerball Jackpot $1.7 Billion | Record-Breaking Prize Saturday

The Powerball® jackpot has surged again! The next drawing is Saturday night, with the jackpot estimated at a whopping $1.7 billion. If you choose the cash option, you'd receive approximately $770.3 million.
This $1.7 billion jackpot ranks as the third-largest in U.S. lottery history. Only two jackpots have been larger: the world record $2.04 billion won in California in November 2022, and last October's $1.765 billion also in California.
The jackpot grew this large because no one won last night. The winning numbers were: White balls: 3, 16, 29, 61, 69, and the red Powerball was 22. The Power Play® multiplier was 2x.
While no one claimed the jackpot, many won other prizes. So ticket holders should definitely check their tickets—matching the red ball or several white balls means cash!
Last night, 11 tickets matched all five white balls, each winning $1 million. These winning tickets were sold in: California (2 tickets), Colorado, Florida, Georgia (2 tickets), Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
(Note: California's prize rules differ from other states. The final payout amount depends on the number of tickets sold and the number of winners.)
Four additional tickets also matched all five white balls, each originally worth $1 million. However, because they paid an extra $1 for the Power Play® option, their prizes doubled to $2 million each! These tickets were sold in Michigan, Oregon, Texas, and Wyoming.
Many more players won smaller prizes: 117 players matched four white balls plus the red ball, each winning $50,000. Of those, 36 players doubled their prize to $100,000 by adding the Power Play option.
In total, over 6.3 million tickets won prizes of varying amounts last night.
Additionally, in the Double Play® drawing (an extra $1 round), two tickets matched all five numbers, each winning $500,000. These tickets were sold in Pennsylvania and Maine.
By Saturday's draw, the jackpot had rolled over 42 consecutive times since the last winner (in California on May 31st this year). This broke the Powerball game's own record for the “longest jackpot vacancy.” The previous record was 41 consecutive rolls, which occurred last April before a $1.326 billion jackpot was won in Oregon.
If someone wins this jackpot, they have two options:
Receive an annuity over time, totaling approximately $1.7 billion.
Take a lump sum cash payment of about $770.3 million.
Both figures are before taxes. Choosing the annuity means receiving an initial lump sum payment, followed by annual payments over the next 29 years, each year's payment increasing by 5% over the previous year.
Powerball tickets cost $2 per play. They are available in 45 U.S. states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Over half of the proceeds from ticket sales remain locally for public benefit. Since 1992, Powerball has contributed over $36 billion to various charitable causes.
Drawings occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. EST. They are broadcast live from a studio in Tallahassee, Florida, and can also be viewed live online at Powerballhome.com.
The odds of winning any prize with a single ticket are approximately 1 in 24.9. But winning the jackpot? Those odds are much lower—1 in 292.2 million.
